The group is believed to have been travelling from Mount Isa to the Lake Nash cattle station in the Northern Territory. Their car broke down on the waterlogged dirt road on Christmas Eve and they were reported missing when they did not arrive at Lake Nash as expected. One of the travellers set off on foot towards their destination to find help, but she was cut off by floodwaters.
The woman was rescued first, and then the other four travellers who were found near a second bogged vehicle.The crew spotted the woman while searching along the road, and she directed them to where the car had broken down.They were found shortly after, waiting near another abandoned vehicle, surrounded by floodwater, on a bogged road.
