And 23 per cent of women aged 40 to 49 years reported earning more than this figure, compared with 34 per cent of men.The gap is similar for women aged between 50 and 59, with 21 per cent of women earning more than $250,000 compared with 34 per cent of men, and 16 per cent of women aged 60 and over earn more than that figure compared with 20 per cent of men.
Law Society of NSW president Joanne van der Plaat said: “The Law Society is very much alive to the gender pay and career opportunity challenges facing law firms. The report found the profession is becoming more diverse, with more than a quarter of solicitors in NSW born overseas. Of those born overseas, 43 per cent are from Asia. But only 1 per cent of solicitors identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
