Andrew Marshall is under police investigation and being pursued by his former company in court after allegedly losing client funds to online bookies.

A bankrupt accountant and former thoroughbred owner is under police investigation over allegations he siphoned more than $3 million from clients in the Macedon Ranges to finance his online gambling habit.

Two other clients, including a single mother of two, lost $650,000 and $33,000, which was also taken for Marshall’s personal use, the writ claims. “Langley McKimmie’s focus remains steadfastly on serving our clients, and we are working diligently to remediate affected clients as soon as possible.” Five victims of the alleged fraud were named as creditors in Marshall’s bankruptcy documents. He cited the reason for his bankruptcy as “legal action or potential legal action, losses from gambling or speculation.”

“The TPB found that Mr Marshall, in breaching the code did not act lawfully in the best interests of his clients by misusing his registered tax agent position for his own personal advantage or benefit,” according to the TPB judgment on January 22.
