Western Australia's workplace safety watchdog will not press charges over the death of a government contractor who died in extreme heat in the state's remote Kimberley. He had been employed by a local Kimberley construction company to build a new visitors centre at the park, which later opened in 2023.ABC Kimberley: Ted O'ConnorAt the time, WA Police said the man and his colleague attempted to walk almost 30 kilometres to a ranger station to seek help, but the pair became separated.

In the days after he died, police determined the man's death was not suspicious and prepared a report for the WA coroner, which was submitted in January 2024. The safety watchdog had three years to decide whether it would prosecute the company, with the statute running out in December 2024.The OHS Act was replaced in 2020 by the Work Health and Safety Act, which now covers notifiable workplace incidents including death and serious injury.
