The Prime Minister has hit back at a journalist after being told he failed to answer a question on tax offsets as 'fewer people' receive a refund from the ATO, leaving some Australians with money owing.
The Australian Taxation Office is expecting that this year"fewer people" will receive a refund when they hand in their tax return, leaving many with money to pay back.for the low and middle income tax offset that reached as high as $1,500 in the 2021-22 financial year.
Anthony Albanese was grilled about low and middle income tax offsets on Friday as millions of Australians lodge their tax returns. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Martin Ollman The journalist pressed further in attempt to get the Prime Minister to specifically answer the question, asking:"Is that something your government would reinstate?"He then talked about what his"government has done on cost of living", referencing the $3 billion energy price relief plan, cheaper medicines, 480,000 fee-free TAFE places, Medicare urgent care clinics and cheaper childcare.
"So my government is doing what we can, we recognise that people are doing it tough. We're not responsible for all of the decisions that the former government made." "And one measure alone, our energy price relief plan, the Governor of the Reserve Bank and the Treasury have all said that alone will take three quarters of a per cent off inflation, making a difference."
