An 11-year-old boy narrowly avoided a suspected abduction attempt as he walked home from school in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. A man in a white van tried to lure the boy by claiming the boy's mother asked him to give him a lift. The boy refused and walked home to report the incident to the police.

A young boy narrowly escaped a terrifying suspected abduction attempt as he walked home from a school in Melbourne ’s eastern suburbs last week. A white van pulled up next to the 11-year-old on Halley St at Blackburn about 3.45pm on Monday, November 18, and told him the boy his mother had sent him.

Suspected abduction attempt under investigation. “The man pulled onto the wrong side of the road, rolled down his window and told the boy his mum asked him to give him a lift home,” Victoria Police said on Wednesday. “The boy declined the man’s offer and the van drove away.” The 11-year-old was able to walk home and tell his mum what had happened, before they reported the incident to police. Now police are searching for the driver of the van and hoping to speak to any witnesses.
