A heroic boy from Hughenden in Queensland's north-west is presented with a bravery award for staying calm and collected during an emergency call to get help for his mum.
Michael Harwood , 12, has been presented with a bravery award for his calm attitude under pressure while calling paramedics in an emergency.
The Queensland Ambulance Service dispatcher who took the boy's 000 phone call met with Michael and his mother in Townsville today.But 12-year-old Michael Harwood was the only one who could ring 000 when his mum was hit by a ball of fire sparked by a faulty lawnmower.'Flame around my head' She was cleaning a spark plug when some excess fuel near the carburettor ignited, shooting fire into her face."Hy husband's pulled the mower and next thing there's a bright orange flame around my head," Ms Harwood said.
"Calling triple-0 can be extremely stressful and terrifying for a person of any age let alone a child, and Michael's demeanour the entire call was just amazing," he said.
