Several young calves have been deliberately run down by a driver at the wheel of a 4WD in Geraldton, five hours north of Perth, police allege. The exact number of dead and injured cattle is still being investigated, but authorities say at least eight calves were injured and one had to be euthanised. “We are aware of a video circulating online depicting what can only be described as an abhorrent act of animal cruelty,” Detective Superintendent Peter Foley said.
“Animal cruelty has no place in our society and is something that will not be tolerated.” A 21-year-old man is accused of driving his Toyota Prado onto a private farmland grazing area in Howatharra, Geraldton about 2am on August 20. The site is home to 90 cows and 86 calves. “It will be alleged he deliberately ran down several three-month-old calves in his vehicle as they attempted to avoid being hit,” police said.
