Ex-NRL playmaker Junior Amone was the victim of a “stitch-up”, his lawyer has told a court, as the former St George Illawarra Dragon attempts to overturn his conviction for a rooftop hammer attack .

New to Kayo?Junior Amone and his father were both found guilty of a string of charges in October last year, including assault occasioning bodily harm. Junior Amone then jumped on the top of the vehicle, the court was told at the time, while his father abused and threatened the tradesmen.Ms Fleming found Junior Amone then climbed onto the roof of the property, where the men were working, while wielding a hammer.
Junior Amone was found guilty of damaging property, intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.However, he was released on bail pending his appeal.In the wake of his conviction, Junior Amone’s Dragons contract was deregistered by the NRL, which resulted in his $500,000-a-year deal being torn up.
He argued that they went to the hearing seeking to “identify one person” and described it as a “stitch up”.The court was told that Junior Amone’s fingerprints were found on the damaged car’s windscreen. Mr Korn told the court that there was never any evidence that the person who jumped on the bonnet also touched the windscreen.The court heard that Junior Amone was seen on CCTV running from the scene in the aftermath, however, Mr Korn argued that it was not proof that he was “fleeing”.
