NRL: Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has praised son Nathan after he led Penrith to a clutch victory against the Knights.
The Sea Eagles are set for a red-hot run home with several players returning to their outfit ahead of Round 23.
Also back on deck is workhorse hooker Lachlan Croker, who has been battling post-concussion symptoms and a neck injury since Round 9. Croker was eased back via New South Wales Cup a fortnight ago but has been named to start for Saturday’s clash with the Raiders. Their bye last week allowed Reuben Garrick and Jason Saab to recover from head knocks without missing a game.
Penrith have been hit with a handful of injury blows in recent weeks with James Fisher-Harris , Dylan Edwards and Paul Alamoti all sidelined. Meanwhile, Daine Laurie has been excellent at fullback and has proven to be the excellent understudy to Edwards. Lindsay Smith and Liam Henry have also excellent in their increased roles this year, only strengthening their bench come Fisher-Harris’ return.
After making the grand final in 2023, and now almost certainly dropping out of the top eight, there’s going to be some tough conversations to be had at Red Hill ahead of their next campaign. The 22-year-old is a talented forward, and will do nothing to hurt his chances of being a mainstay next year with some strong performances.
Mozer, who is one of the most highly touted rising stars in the game, will be desperate to prove he’s a long-term No.9 option for the Brisbane outfit off the bench. The 25-year-old suffered it in Round 10 and was pencilled in for six-to-eight weeks on the sideline. He returned in Round 19 - right on cue – but failed to finish the game and hasn’t been sighted since.
