Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has levelled with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as the preferred PM for the first time in the latest poll of a regular monthly series.

As the election nears, a new poll has revealed Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has levelled with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as the preferred PM among likely voters for the first time.

The latest poll, conducted by The Financial Review, showed no change regarding the Coalition’s two-party preferred lead over Labor, which stands at 51-49, which, according to pollster William Bowe, came despite Labor’s slight improvement in the primary vote which was up two points to 32 per cent.The Greens, alternatively, dropped a point to 13 per cent.In terms of approval ratings, Mr Albanese dropped two points to 32 per cent and down a point to a 50 per cent disapproval rating.

Speaking to Sunrise on Monday morning to reflect on the latest poll results, Housing Minister Clare O’Neil said there was a “clear message” to be found. “Peter Dutton has had three years to come up with policy ideas and I haven't heard any of them and it is time he comes forward and explains himself.”

“First and foremost, the Labor Party have been there for three years and cost of living has got vastly worse,” he said.
