Lucy Liu stars as a mother with a secret in a haunting ghost story with a twist in Presence, directed by the award-winning Steven Soderbergh.
"Steven is so chill and fast and easy to work with. He doesn't really say much at all," Callina Liang told Women's Wear Daily. "I was expecting it to be a little bit more stressful."Horror has always been one of cinema's most formally inventive genres, a playground for filmmakers to pioneer everything from creepy first-person perspectives to found footage freak-outs and desktop-bound thrillers.
Shooting with a Sony DSLR still camera switched to video mode, Soderbergh conjures the impression of a spirit hovering between planes. The camera roams in long takes with an eerie staccato rhythm, as though every second frame were missing, the actors' dialogue rendered slightly out of sync as a result. The effect is both disconcerting and exhilarating, like watching CCTV footage from beyond.

Soderbergh's mother was a parapsychologist, and he's said that Presence was inspired by the fact that his own home is said to be haunted.
