One of Australia’s most popular summer festivals, Mona Foma, has announced its permanent cancellation after 16 years of operation. The festival, which began in 2009 as an outreach program for the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), has hosted renowned artists such as Paul Kelly, Gotye, and Bon Iver over the years. The final edition of the festival took place in 2024, with Queens of the Stone Age as one of the performers.

“After 16 years, the sun has set on Mona Foma for the final time”, a pop-up on the festival’s website read, with a blog post written by Walsh attached. “Mona Foma took us around the world. But it ends here. Maybe the end started at Covid. Maybe it’s because the last festival was a poorly attended artistic triumph. But those aren’t the reasons I killed it,” he wrote.
