A Queensland council has run out of money to complete its planned Outback Museum of Australia. It was billed as a grand tribute to outback life and history that would transform the Queensland town of Charleville into a premier tourist destination.
Those funds were also directed to three other tourism projects, including Charleville's World War II Secret Base exhibit, the Charleville Airfield Museum and a historical exhibit in the nearby town of Augathella. "Queensland councils have been advocating for support from the state and federal governments through increased grant funding in recognition of rising materials and delivery costs," Ms Smith said.
Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers acknowledged councils around the country were dealing with financial pressures. The minister's office said it was not made aware of any delays to the completion of Murweh's Outback Museum of Australia.Barcaldine Regional Council Mayor Rob Chandler said projects in his region were also at risk."The escalation of costs is tough, not just on our local governments but on private enterprise right across Australia," he said.
