An Arctic wind is sending a cold chill over Queensland, with the weather bureau predicting more low temperatures and a chance of snow later this week.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Shane Kennedy said the cold snap would continue settling across most of Queensland in the coming days, having travelled inland and as far north as Richmond.

Mr Kennedy said other inland areas shivered through below-average temperatures overnight, ranging from two to eight degrees colder than usual, including Hughenden at 1.8C and Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim dipping just below zero.Despite the varying climate, the capitals – outside of Darwin – all have one thing in common. They've just shivered through what is historically their coldest week on the calendar.
