When Johno Hams first arrived at Bullara Station in outback Western Australia, he was confronted with a pile of rubbish. He's managed to turn it into something amazing.
John Hams built a sports shed from recycled station scraps.House builder turned creative recycler Johno Hams has built a sports shed entirely from recycled station "junk".What's next?
A carpenter by trade, he has put his days of building houses aside and has taken on a more creative project: turning old station scrap into what he calls aThe shed that he built at the station, 1,150 kilometres north of Perth, over a few months this year is a unique gathering place for the staff and his friends.("Out the back of the station there's a laydown area and there's all these old materials that have been sitting there for however long," he said.
"So, the bull bar was one of my mate's ideas, Zane, and we were just sitting here one night, having a yarn," he said.Johno says he trials each piece to see how it might fit in with each project."I just love creating things, that's where my love for carpentry is," he said. But his pride and glory is what he calls a "drinking trough" made from a scaffolding frame, old tin, and decking from a cottage.
"It's great to see a traditional chippy come and watch him grow and embrace the, you know, the artistic side," he said.
