AFL: The new holding the ball rules have received positive feedback during the Port Adelaide v Carlton game, the first since the rules introduction.
In a relief for AFL players, coaches and fans, the new interpretation of the holding-the-ball rule has been given the green light during its first trial last night.

New to Kayo?Speaking on Fox Footy’s half-time coverage of the match, Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall praised the umpires on how they went about officiating the first part of the game. “Who would have thought that forcing the ball carrier to make quicker decisions would result in a more up tempo, open game of footy?” he wrote.️ “Great adjustment.”
“In the current landscape of AFL football, with all the current things that we say are important to us, I thought those two decisions were correct.” “Tonight you had two teams that come off five days , so no one trained – and we found out the adjustments after our last training session effectively, so not a lot of time to go and make a lot of adjustments.
