F1: Adrian Newey, widely regarded as the architect of Red Bull's title dominance, is set to leave the team following the Christian Horner scandal.

He’s done practically everything there is to do in a Formula 1 team, from aerodynamics, chassis design and even race engineering. The drama was caused by the power vacuum left following the death of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, which triggered a scramble for control. Jos Verstappen, father of Max Verstappen, sensationally called for Horner to step down because the team was “in danger of being torn apart” if he continued at its head. His intervention followed the anonymous leaking of screenshots alleged to be of a WhatsApp conversation between Horner and an unnamed female employee, the veracity of which have never been proven.
Winning is one common thread through Newey’s career. The other is a total distaste for politics, in particular politicking that affects his role. Newey signed a new contract only last year. If Red Bull Racing must lose him, it won’t make it easy for any other team to take him. Newey has said that among his only regrets are to have not worked for Ferrari and with Lewis Hamilton. The prospect of a rapid Newey departure will likely have no meaningful impact this season. The 2024 car is dominant, and its development program will already have been set in motion.
