The Canadian artist has been reigning pop royalty for more than a decade. Now Spotify's #1 most streamed artist proves good things come to those who wait with his long-awaited Australian tour.

In the seven years since The Weeknd last toured Australia, the Canadian musician's career has taken a number of interesting turns.due to COVID, The Weeknd has arrived in Australia with the After Hours 'til Dawn tour, celebrating his last three records —

Fast forward a couple of years and The Weeknd returns with another slam dunk of a record in Dawn FM in 2022., it's a deliciously dark journey back towards the light; a synth-driven, dance-pop album that saw The Weeknd continue to dance with form and combine the darker elements of his early material with forward-thinking production and melody. Both albums indicated The Weeknd could take the music and his influences in a number of different directions.

Kicking off his tour in biblical style, The Weeknd's stage production included enough pyro for the heat to be felt across the stadium. It was a shame the weather meant the roof of the stadium was closed, denying the first-night crowd of fireworks enjoyed by the Sunday night crowd. From a production standpoint, the build of The Weeknd's show is a marvel in itself.

In among tour debut of new material like 'The Crowd' and 'Wake Up', the set flowed seamlessly through the artist's different eras: the moodiness of the Dawn FM chapter manifesting beautifully across performances of 'Take My Breath' and 'Sacrifice', through to the euphoric 'Can't Feel My Face' and horny duo of 'The Hills' and 'Often' from Beauty Behind The Madness.

It's hard for any performer to connect when playing a stadium, and with the level of physical distance between the stage and the audience, the space that existed on the ground itself was noticeable. As the stadium became swathed in hues of blue and red, as fireballs shot into the air, flames lighting up the catwalk stage, The Weeknd's voice was an anchor grounding the audience throughout each dramatic live moment.A sense of unbridled joy remained constant throughout the show; again, a hard thing for an artist to maintain with a production of this scale.
