A 40-year-old man from Queensland has been identified as the attacker in a fatal stabbing spree at Westfield Sydney's Bondi Junction Shopping Centre. The man, named Joel Cauchi, is believed to have mental health difficulties and is known to Queensland Police. Investigations are ongoing to establish a motivation for the attack.
A 40-year-old Queensland man has been identified as the attacker in a fatal stabbing spree at Westfield Sydney 's Bondi Junction Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon . Speaking to the media on Sunday morning, Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke said police believe the attacker, named Joel Cauchi, hails from the Brisbane area, he came to New South Wales last month, and he suffers from mental health difficulties. He is also known to Queensland Police.
" Police were yet to establish a motivation for the attack. Cooke said investigations will continue throughout the day, with Westfield Bondi Junction Shopping Centre to remain closed over coming days. "This is a large crime scene. We need to each and every aspect of the crime scene, absolutely in minute detail, to make sure we get that right. We will do things as quickly as is absolutely practical but it will take some time.
