The Queen’s first black Lord-Lieutenant of London says she and the royal family support the Black Lives Matter movement and “care passionately” about bringing the nation together.
Sir Ken Olisa told Channel 4’s Black To Front the anti-racism movement has been a “hot conversation topic” among the palace in the wake of George Floyd’s murder in the US last year.
"I have discussed with the royal household this whole issue of race particularly in the last 12 months since the George Floyd incident. It's a hot conversation topic. The question is what more can we do to bind society to remove these barriers. His comments come after Buckingham Palace was hit with accusations of racism following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Queen released a statement following the explosive interview, stating “recollections may vary" but the issues regarding race “are concerning”.
