The New South Wales government's crisis cabinet agreed on the date to reopen pubs, cafes and retail outlets overnight after Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant was overruled by the Premier.
The state government's crisis cabinet held a meeting on Wednesday night where they signed off on the roadmap out of coronavirus lockdown amid a relentless outbreak of the Delta strain.
But NSW’s top doctor advocated for a more careful plan for reopening, suggesting 80-85 per cent vaccination coverage would be better suited to avoid the risk of re-entering lockdown at a later date. She argued delaying the reopening by a short period of time would mitigate the risk but went on to agree with the easing of restrictions once the goal of 70 per cent double-dose is achieved.
