Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews has urged residents told to isolate for two weeks to 'see common sense' after a COVID-19 positive family was allegedly busted breaching stay-at-home health orders in Melbourne's southwest.
Premier Daniel Andrews has called for Victorian residents isolating to"see common sense" after a COVID-19 positive family was allegedly caught by neighbours breaching home quarantine.
He warned people who breach the rules will be slapped with hefty fines, pointing to the Orthodox Adass Israel Synagogue gathering overnight and last month's Caufield North engagement party that saw $5,452 infringement notices handed out. "The people in Shepparton weren't sneaking out and having people over. They were doing an amazing job and that is why they have driven the case numbers down."
Mr Andrews said he hoped it would not come to health authorities having to remove the family from their home and put into hotel quarantine where they can be managed. They later returned on Tuesday, along with Melbourne police officers, warning the family they would be fined $10,000 each, removed from their home and placed into hotel quarantine if they breached the rules again.
