Sky News Queensland Editor Peter Gleeson says the speculation surrounding former NSW deputy premier John Barilaro’s trade role appointment is a classic case of a “job for the boys gone wrong”.
Mr Gleeson’s comments follow revelations from Mr Barilaro’s former chief of staff, Mark Connell, who claimed Mr Barilaro told him he wanted the trade commissioner role when he quit politics.
“In Barilaro’s defence, there are many examples where former politicians have landed plum roles, plum trade roles elsewhere,” Mr Gleeson told Sky News host Peta Credlin.“But the testimony today of his former chief of staff is incredibly damming, and it just doesn’t pass the pub test.”
