COVID-19 infections linked to aged care facilities in Victoria could have dire consequences given the high mortality rate for elderly people with comorbidities, according to Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck. Two more elderly victims of the pandemic have died due COVID-19 related complications amid the second wave of infections currently sweeping across Victoria.

However, Mr Colbeck told Sky News host Chris Smith at present it was mostly staff who had caught the virus and not residents of the facilities. “Out of the 30 that we have live at the moment, 24 are only staff”. He said the government was looking to prevent the spread by isolating and limiting access to elderly residents and ensuring staff were operating with full PPE. Image: Getty
