Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed he will wait until after the next election before marrying his fiancée Jodie Haydon.

'Focus on the job at hand': Anthony Albanese confirms wedding to Jodie Haydon will be held after the next election

The couple, who were engaged at an Italian restaurant in Canberra on Valentine's Day this year, are now likely to wed in the second half of next year. "I've said for a long period of time, I've said it probably a hundred times, that three years is too short. I'd like to see four year terms," he said."As Prime Minister, you would be very unwise to give... a huge amount of notice of when the election will be."

But Mr Albanese indicated he was hesitant to hold a referendum on parliamentary lengths, given expanded terms have previously been rejected, and the majority of voters said no to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice proposal last October.
