Anthony Albanese has been accused of being “arrogant” over his decision to cut staff allocations to crossbenchers as Labor defends the move as a “commonsense” approach.

The Prime Minister informed crossbench MPs that they would only be allowed one parliamentary staff on top of the existing four in their electorate offices.

Following backlash from independents over the decision, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Education Minister Jason Clare came to the Prime Minister’s defence. Further cuts to Parliamentary office budgets are expected, with the Prime Minister slashing resources in his own office. Picture: Getty Images. The Deputy Opposition Leader, Sussan Ley, was a bit more “sympathetic” to the independents’ argument, repeating their claims that the extra staff was necessary to stay across legislation.

“We are seeing his true character: dismissive of our communities & arrogant. No different to Morrison.”
