The Prime Minister has replied to the action plan from China which directed Australia to treat Beijing as a 'partner' rather than a 'threat' and 'build a positive foundation of public opinion'.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry outlined four demands for Australia over the weekend in the hopes it will"seize the opportunity" to improve its partnership after it soured almost three years ago under former prime minister Scott Morrison.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a response to China's demands from Australia. Picture: Lisa Maree Williams/Getty Images Mr Albanese was questioned about his thoughts on the list ahead of his fourth international trip since becoming Prime Minister to attend the Pacific Islands Forum in Fiji. Another journalist posed to the Prime Minister that Chinese state media had reported Senator Wong and Mr Wang had agreed to"remove obstacles" to realign its ties."I'll listen to what Penny Wong says about the meeting. It was a constructive meeting. It was just a step forward."
Beijing also blamed the former Morrison government for the"irresponsible" words and actions that led to the breakdown between China and Australia. "The root cause of the difficulties in bilateral relations over the past few years was the former Australian government’s insisting on regarding China as a rival or even a threat, allowing its words and deeds being irresponsible against China,” he said, according to state media Xinhua.
