The Victorian Liberal leader has demanded Daniel Andrews resign for allowing corruption to “flourish” as he slammed the Prime Minister for defending the Premier following a damning report from the state’s top integrity bodies.
Mr Guy on Thursday morning hit out at allegations of corruption in the Labor Party aired in a report by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission and the Victorian Ombudsman on Wednesday.
But Mr Guy said it was “stunning” that the Premier believed he could fix Labor’s integrity concerns and targeted Mr Albanese for attempting to “talk this matter down”. As part of the response to Operation Watts’ report, the government will also legislate mandatory integrity requirements for all large political parties.
“He values his own career, it’s all about his own self-interests, it’s all about him getting a statue, him becoming the longest serving Labor Premier.” The Prime Minister praised his state counterpart on Thursday morning, arguing Mr Andrews took “really strong action” following the 60 Minutes report in June 2020 which largely triggered the investigation.
