A drunk arsonist deliberately set fire to a neighbour's car during a “revenge attack” in Hucknall. Nottingham Crown Court heard how father-of-one Terry Matthews used firelighters to start the blaze but had to return 90 minutes later as his initial efforts failed to ignite.
Sue Rodham, prosecuting, said the incident happened where Mathews and the victim both live in Barbara Square on the evening of February 2, 2022. She said the defendant first tried to start the fire at 10pm but failed and so returned and tried a second time at around 11.30pm. “She has given a victim impact statement in which she said she used the seven-seater car to drive her children around and since it happened she had been struggling.
