New Zealand police have deployed specialist armed officers to a suburb in west Auckland after responding to reports a shot may have been fired.
Reports of gunfire in West Auckland, New Zealand, have seen police and specialist armed officers deployed and reports of lockdowns at local schools.
Local media have reported a primary school and a preschool in the Glen Eden area are in lockdown and cordons are in place and that police can be heard negotiating with a person in the area.The NZ Herald reports a local resident passing by, Richard Ramage, said he had seen a heavy police presence following some sort of disturbance. Glen Eden Primary School, in Glenview Rd, earlier told parents it was in lockdown.
Talented Tots childcare, an early childcare centre on West Coast Rd, also confirmed it went into lockdown this morning."Police are making enquiries ... The Armed Offenders Squad has been deployed to the area as a precaution," a police spokesman said. The country has had a high security alert in place since March 15 when a gunman attacked two mosques in Christchurch, killing 50 people.
