Australia live news update: FA investigates ‘shameful’ Melbourne derby fans; recalled spinach ‘from a single source’

I don’t care about people who think that this decision about the Grand Final was good or bad. That is not a reason for what happened last night and anyone who says it is justified because of a decision to move the final to Sydney, in my view, is completely out of touch.

I don’t think we can go as far as to say that they aren’t capable of running the League, I don’t agree with that. There are some things that haven’t gone well this week with the League and my role as the leader of this board is to find a resolution because we can’t have that going forward. I think this is a legal issue, and of course he does have some consequences for the rest of the game but we also need to remember that this is A-League, not the game. The game is 2 million people who play a week in, week out.

There is no other suspended disciplinary action that I’m aware of, but what I will say is that we will be working through that today. We have already started working on the show cause process as of late last night, and we will be moving forward as quickly and swiftly as possible to finalise it, because it is important we get ahead of this issue as a sport.wishes to let the investigation play out.

Last night’s derby between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory was abandoned after fans stormed the pitch and attacked Glover with a bin. Football Australia announced an investigation into the incident would commence immediately, with strong sanctions to be handed down. “This has really been a day in Australian football that hasn’t been seen before,” Ms Edwards-Smith said. “Many people have been taking to social media with their distaste for those fans who decided to partake in this particularly ugly behaviour yesterday.”
