Trade Minister Stuart Ayres will be asked about his role in John Barilaro’s appointment to a New York trade post.
Former NSW deputy premier John Barilaro will next month front a committee probing his controversial appointment to a US trade post, in a marathon sitting which could run over two days.
On Thursday, Mr Ayres told press at the opening of a regional trade office in Mumbai that it was the state which had lost out from Mr Barilaro’s decision to withdraw from the $500,000 a year role.NSW Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said the committee would probe the role Trade Minister Stuart Ayres played in the appointment process.
But the MPs scrapped their call to return early from the winter break after the government agreed to hand over thousands of papers which were previously classified as secret. Ms West alleged in an earlier hearing of the inquiry that Amy Brown offered her the US trade post before rescinding the offer and telling her that it would be a “present” for someone else.
