A baby boy is in a stable condition in hospital following a horror crash that killed his mother on Friday afternoon
Police believe a white B-double was travelling in the opposite direction and may have flicked the tow bar into the woman's car, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash into a tree.
The woman's death comes after a double fatal on the same stretch of road, 70 kilometres west of Melbourne, on October 26. Those works were supposed to be finished by the end of the year, but have been delayed. Footage from Nine News shows no barriers at the scene of Friday's crash. The Nissan Patrol was travelling north on Sydney Road where it collided with the back of a truck just before 6.15am, near the intersection of Truck City Drive.
He was clocked at 37km/h over the speed limit while allegedly using his mobile phone and under the influence of drugs. He also had a 15-year-old passenger in the car at the time.
