Online bidding for the William Sykes & Son bat reached $245,500, with the winning sum slightly higher. Pickles Auctions executive director Gavin Dempsey said the item was one of the rarest pieces of Australian sporting memorabilia. Bradman wrote his two top scores from the series – 304 at Headingley and 244 at the Oval – on the back of the bat.
