Breaking: Conservative crossbenchers have joined Labor to block the Berejiklian government's push to freeze the wages of hundreds of thousands of public sector workers
Conservative crossbenchers have joined Labor to block the Berejiklian government's push to freeze the wages of hundreds of thousands of public sector workers.
Nurses and midwives protested outside NSW Parliament House opposing the government's 12-month wage freeze. The successful motion will likely force the government to the Industrial Relations Commission. Christian Democrats MP Fred Nile was the only crossbencher to vote with the Coalition. This would have included nurses, police, paramedics, teachers and train crews who face losing a salary increase of up to 2.5 per cent this year.
The government's leader in the upper house Damien Tudehope said the people who had been hardest hit in NSW were those who had lost their jobs.
