Detectives are gathering CCTV footage in the hopes of finding the mother who abandoned a newborn infant at a residence in Sydney's West. 9News
The newborn girl was found alone in the backyard of a home on Girra Road in Blacktown about 2.30pm on Friday after a family heard her crying.
Detective Inspector Jason Pietruszka, from Blacktown Police, told Ben Fordham on 2GB this morning police had no leads so far in the case.There was, however, some CCTV footage taken in the area where the baby was abandoned, Pietruszka said.Police were mainly concerned about the welfare of the mother, Pietruszka said."We just want to make sure she's okay. who knows who this lady is, please come forward and we will take that information on," he said.
It's believed the baby was only between an hour and three hours old when she was found naked and crying.She is being cared for by Blacktown Hospital, where she was taken on Friday after being treated by paramedics. It is unknown whether she was born in the backyard, but police have confirmed she was not born in a hospital.Continue reading
