Efforts to get Joe Biden to pull out of the 2024 election race appear to be bearing fruit, with new reports revealing the 81-year-old President is now privately “receptive” to arguments from fellow Democrats.

Joe Biden reportedly 'receptive' and 'willing to listen' to Democrats pushing for the 81-year-old to drop out of the presidential race President Joe Biden has significantly softened his resistance to pulling out of the presidential race, with senior democrats saying the 81-year-old is"receptive" during discussions about his future.

Efforts to get Joe Biden to pull out of the 2024 election race appear to be bearing fruit, with new reports revealing the 81-year-old President is now privately “receptive” to arguments from fellow Democrats. Pressure has been mounting on Biden ever since his disastrous debate performance in late June, however America’s oldest-ever president has fiercely insisted he remains committed to running despite signs of cognitive decline. However senior Democratic officials have now told CNN and the New York Times talks about the President’s future were continuing and Mr Biden’s opposition to the idea of dropping out is softening.“He’s gone from saying, ‘Kamala can’t win,’ to ‘Do you think Kamala can win? It’s still unclear where he’s going to land but seems to be listening.” A person close to the president reportedly told the New York Times there were no signs the President was changing course but that he was now “willing to listen”. The President has since tested positive with COVID-19, leading some to speculate it could provide him with a way of backing down from his previous insistence on running. The most senior Democratic lawmakers to publicly call for President Biden to step aside is Californian congressman and senate candidate Adam Schiff – a close ally of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Congressman Schiff recently told the Los Angeles Times that America was “at a crossroads” and he had doubts the President could defeat Donald Trump. “A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November,” the congressman said. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has reportedly told President Joe Biden it would be"better for Biden, better for the Democratic Party and better for the country" if he withdrew from the race. In the last 24 hours, reports have revealed that both Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, have urged the president to stand aside in the past week. America’s ABC News reported on Wednesday Senator Schumer had used a one-on-one meeting on Saturday to tell the president it would be the best for the party if he stepped down. Senator Schumer reportedly said it would be"better for Biden, better for the Democratic Party and better for the country", if he withdrew from the race. When contacted for comment, the Senator's office did not deny the meeting took place, nor state that the Majority Leader continued to support the President running. "Leader Schumer conveyed the views of his caucus and the views of other Democratic Senators," the Senator's office said. In a separate story in Politico, several sources close to Ms Pelosi said the former Speaker of the House told President Biden she and other Democratic lawmakers were worried if Biden remained as the candidate it would drag down the party’s vote in races across the country. Ms Pelosi also reportedly warned the President leading Democrats would start to speak out publicly about their concerns if he insisted on staying in the race. Several Democratic lawmakers were reportedly ready to leak information about a “tense” Zoom call President Biden had with dozens of moderate Democrats over the weekend, but the attempted assassination of Mr Trump led them to hold back for several days. According to a report citing multiple sources who were on the call, the 81-year-old President repeatedly lost his train of thought on the call and was dismissive of Democrats concerns. “The call was even worse than the debate. He was rambling; he’d start an answer then lose his train of thought, then would just say ‘whatever’. He really couldn’t complete an answer. I lost a ton of respect for him,” one person on the call said. A second person, who is a Democratic member of Congress, said that the President “was rambling, dismissive of concerns, unable or unprepared to present a campaign strategy”. “Had the assassination attempt not occurred an hour later, I imagine 50 people on that Zoom were ready to come out publicly against him,” the member of Congress added. The Zoom call also included a heated exchange during in which President Biden ripped into Colorado congressman Jason Crow, who had asked the President about the importance of national security, arguing that voters in his district wanted a commander in chief who “can project strength, vigour, and inspire confidence at home and abroad”. President Biden reportedly responded by saying the congressman was “dead wrong on national security”, before challenging lawmakers to name a foreign leader who doesn’t think he was the “most effective leader in the world”. “You saw what happened recently in terms of the meeting we had with NATO. I put NATO together,” The President reportedly said. “Name me a foreign leader who thinks I’m not the most effective leader in the world on foreign policy. Tell me!”
