Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will miss Thursday night’s game against the Steelers after injuring his ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Jets.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will miss Thursday night’s game against the Steelers after. He injured the ankle chasing Jets quarterback Joe Flacco on a deep pass attempt in the third quarter Sunday and was seen leaving the locker room with a walking boot on his right foot after the game.

Clowney is off to a strong start in his second season in Cleveland with 1.5 sacks, including a strip sack of Flacco on Sunday. He also batted down two passes in Week 1 going against his former teammate, Baker Mayfield. Pro Football Focus credited Clowney with four pressures on Sunday -- and six over the season’s first two games -- and he was a key component in the Browns’ use of four edge rushers on Sunday which also featured Chase Winovich, Alex Wright and Myles Garrett. Clowney’s strip sack came with the four edge rusher front.Winovich will also miss Thursday night’s game with a hamstring injury as will tight end Jesse James due to a biceps injury.

Clowney’s absence likely means more opportunities for Wright and rookie Isaiah Thomas as well the potential to bring Isaac Rochell up off the team’s practice squad. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who injured his ankle late in the game, is not on the injury report and will play on Thursday.
