Artist James Dive crafted the confronting piece of artwork, which is surrounded by brightly-coloured gifts and tap-and-go EFTPOS stations which allow donations to the Australian Red Cross.It was constructed from materials collected from bushfire-ravaged communities.

"From arms' length it can be difficult to comprehend the true impact of the bushfires on the ground. The act of collecting and building the tree from remnants of the fires has been sobering," Mr Dive said. "We all want to help, and right now generosity is needed to help organisations like Red Cross support communities who've lost everything, especially at this time of year.""This tree will serve as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of the bushfires, and encourages passers-by to reflect and give generously to support the Red Cross' important work," City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
