The NSW bushfires are stretching the state's emergency services to unprecedented levels, not only for firefighters but also the ambulance service and triple-zero emergency call centres.

"I want to say that for NSW Ambulance, we're currently at 51,000 cases this December, which is the busiest season on record for this organisation," Dr Morgan said. "This week alone, we've had six children caught in cars that have been locked."Dr Morgan said everyone needed to ensure their own safety and that of their children and elderly people in the community during bushfires and heat wave conditions.

"We're asking people that are making calls on triple zero to only do so if they can see actual fire and they don't see fire appliances or crews in attendance," Mr Baxter said. On Saturday, the Rural Fire Service had 216 additional trucks on standby "ready to respond to problem spots" in addition to the fire trucks allocated by fire.
