A Victorian bushwalker in his 30s has died after falling at Federation Peak , in Tasmania 's south-west. Tasmania Police said it was understood the man fell 'from height' about 11am on Monday while on a bushwalk in Southwest National Park with two companions, who raised the alarm.The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and ground crews began searching again when light returned on Tuesday and found his body about 9am.

Part of the walk around the peak includes clinging to an exposed rock face with a 600-metre drop below to Lake Geeves.The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Services warns the challenges of the Eastern Arthur Range Traverse, which includes the 1,225-metre-high Federation Peak, are 'not to be underestimated'. 'It should be completed by walkers with significant experience in remote, alpine conditions,' the Parks website states.Just days ago, on Christmas Eve, two men in their 20s who had become lost were rescued near Federation Peak after activating their personal locator beacon.The 54-year-old bushwalker from Queensland who was found dead in a separate incident in the national park on Saturday, was walking alone along the Western Arthur Traverse — another challenging walk.With a death just this week bringing home the dangers, climbers know Tasmania's Federation Peak is not for the faint of heart. His body was found by another bushwalker on the track and police said initial investigations indicated there were no suspicious circumstance
