From the producers of Making Their Mark comes this engrossing series on the AFL Women's competition. AFLW
Amanda Ling with her Bulldogs team-mates in a scene from Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW.“Up in their f---in’ face in the first five minutes!” urges Collingwood star Brianna Davey in a pre-game huddle, neatly establishing just how aggressive the women of the AFLW can be once they get on the field.
“None of you have got that angry, dirty bone in your body, but we’ve got to find it,” he tells his squad – 15 of whom are under the age of 21. “We can’t afford to be nice.” The only really disappointing thing about the two episodes available for review is the revelation that female footballers are just as proficient as the men when it comes to motivational cliche and management gobbledygook. If we never again hear one woman tell another “Your pressure was elite” we should all be happy.
Differences from the men’s game are immediately apparent. Relatively minor injuries can be a big deal when the season lasts just 10 rounds. Bigger injuries become a huge deal when they keep you from doing the day job you need to make ends meet. There are some very poignant moments, particularly those involving the GWS players coming back together after the death of their beloved teammate Jacinda Barclay.
