With cars bogged and broken tents and gazebos littering the muddy Splendour in The Grass campgrounds, the last of the festival goers at the site are wondering how they will get out.

"I would say like 50 per cent of the cars down here are going to need to be pushed out," festival attendee Ewan Roxborgh said.Mr Roxborgh and his friends drove up from Melbourne last Thursday, arriving in a queue of traffic outside the campgrounds at 3pm.

At 3am on Friday, he and hundreds of others pitched their tents in the North Byron Parklands Day Car Park, which was converted to a campground at the last minute. "People were just getting bogged and there was no way we were going to get up to the campsite, and this was the best we were going to be able to have," he said.Mud in parts of the low-lying area remained ankle deep throughout the festival, after the area flooded on Thursday night.

The fortunate few have been sleeping in their cars, with broken tents and gazebos littering the grounds. Others, with no other option, have braved the wet and muddy conditions."Especially Friday being cancelled — we didn't know until people came back from the event saying it was cancelled." Ms Shin said once the festival got underway it was "really fun", but she was not looking forward to figuring out how she would escape the muddy site."I have to talk to my mates about that. I feel like everyone … will try and get out as quick as possible, so we'll see."
