Greater Brisbane’s showed the population has grown 22.28 per cent since 2011, from 2,065,996 to 2,526,238, more than enough to fill the Gabba 10 times over.
Greater Brisbane has become even greater, with the latest census data showing the region’s population has grown by almost a quarter in the past decade.
Nationally, Queensland still has the strongest population growth in Australia, with NSW and Victoria almost stagnate as more people move north. Units made up 44.8 per cent of inner Brisbane’s housing stock in 2011, numbering 39,984. By 2021, the proportion had increased to 57.8 per cent, with 70,777 units in the area, a 77.01 per cent increase in unit stock.The region’s roads were under more strain, with the average number of cars per dwelling increasing from 1.7 to 1.9, while the average number of people per household dropped from 2.7 to 2.6.
At the same time, rental costs across Greater Brisbane increased 16.92 per cent from $325 to $380. Historically low interest rates at the time of the census meant the average monthly repayment dropped 4.46 per cent, from $1950 to $1863.
