China could soon lift its ban on Australian coal as it looks to provide households and industry with stable energy prices and supply ahead of Chinese New Year celebrations.
Beijing imposed trade tariffs on Australian exports including coal, beef, barley and wine – worth about $20 billion to the economy – in 2020 in response to the former Morrison government calling for an inquiry into the origins of COVID-19.

Stronger efforts should be made to ensure a safe and stable energy supply, with priority given to residential use," the premier said,“On top of this, energy demand for production activities in economically strong provinces, key industries and enterprises must be met.”
