‘We didn’t know what she was going to do’: McKeon considered walking away after TokyoAs Olympic superstar Emma McKeon prepares for her long-awaited return to racing, her longtime coach has revealed just how close she came to walking away from the sport after she caught lightning in a bottle in the Tokyo pool last year.
McKeon is back where she belongs, suiting up for the Dolphins at the Commonwealth Games. One year earlier, she unfurled one of the greatest individual performances in Olympic history, pillaging four gold and three bronze medals to become Australia’s most-decorated Olympian.But her presence in Birmingham was no certainty, with McKeon painstakingly considering her future steps as she took a three-month break from the water over the Australian summer.
