Mercedes are protesting the final race results after a 'controversial' call saw Red Bull's Max Verstappen beat Lewis Hamilton on the last lap to claim the 2021 Formula 1 world championship.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen won his first Formula 1 world championship after a"controversial" call led to a last lap move on race leader Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton opted to cut the corner and eased the throttle to not take advantage. Race control quickly announced there would be no investigation over the move. Verstappen pitted on lap 14 for the more durable hard tyres. The Brit came in the following lap after for the same compound. Hamilton made the move on Perez moments later as the Red Bull driver swerved left to let Verstappen pass to chase down Hamilton.
