The letter from Victorian Bar president Wendy Harris, QC, to Attorney-General Jill Hennessy outlined the organisation's concerns with the Omnibus Bill, which would hand power to Health Department-appointed authorised officers to detain anyone they "reasonably believe" may negligently spread the virus.
The Deputy Chief Health Officer Professor Allen Cheng confirmed that around 20 per cent of Victoria's COVID-19 cases were responsible for 80 per cent of the spread in what are called 'super spreader' events."Logic tells you that not everybody who has symptoms tomorrow gets tested. There will be more out there than the case numbers I'll report every day. The question is 'are they a good proxy for what's out there?'," he said.
Yarra Ranges police took to their Facebook page last night asking locals to refrain from coming out to help with the search due to COVID-19 restrictions, but this morning police asked residents to keep an eye out for the teen on their walks."It's not my practice to communicate with the Chief Commissioner of Police through the media," Mr Andrews said.
Mr Andrews was asked directly that based on Victoria's good performance if he was planning to announce more."I know I've made the point many times but it's worth repeating again that what we do on Sunday, the full effect of that won't necessarily be apparent to us until a couple of weeks after then. That's why they have to be cautious steps, steady steps and all the steps we take have to be safe.
The cluster as so far halted at 43 cases and hasn’t moved for at least two days.“There's still close contacts that are undergoing monitoring but there have been no new cases,” Professor Cheng said.Professor Cheng said testing rates were adequate, noting about 2 per cent of the population of Melbourne had been tested in the last fortnight, assuming every person only received one test.
