Premier Daniel Andrews says the state government would consider bringing forward its dates for reopening if daily case numbers fall more quickly than current modelling predicts.
"If there's a step change, well then of course we would always reserve the right to look at that model and make sure that it was truly representative of the amount of virus out there and then we would make judgements based on that," he told radio station 3AW.A very quiet Bourke Street Mall on Sunday, September 6.Mr Andrews insisted the government had made radical improvements to its contact tracing operation through the use of artificial intelligence and increased door-knocking.

Brazil has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases and related deaths in the world, with these tallies currently standing at 4.1 million and 126,203, respectively.French health authorities reported 7071 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, down from Saturday's 8550 and also below Friday's peak of 8975.
